Product Description
Once they fully comprehend the concept of indirect characterization, students will become more critical readers, as well as more proficient writers. This lesson aims to facilitate this process.

This lesson will work well as part of a larger writing unit, or when studying writing or literature. However, it would also be perfect as a one-off substitute lesson!

STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN
This step-by-step plan will guide you through the lesson - along with tips and hints for teaching.

3 x DIRECT TO INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION
As part of a group work activity, students use these slips of paper to turn uncreative direct characterization into wonderfully woven words of indirect characterization.

4 x WRITING USING INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION
These four pages contain different writing prompts (so students in each group aren’t completing the exact same task), and prompt students to think about creating characters in their writing through the use of indirect characterization. There is also a peer editing element of this worksheet.

*BONUS: Analyzing Characterization in Literature
This one-page worksheet could be used as an extension exercise, or any time you are studying literature as it prompts students to identify characterization in any novel.
