This is a set of visual writing prompts for kids, in Elementary Grades: a set of pictures and tasks to inspire creative writing.
It is a great writing center activity, as the tasks offer individual students enough scaffolding and writing tips for students to independently complete work.
On each task card, there is a picture, a few questions to get thoughts flowing and a choice of two prescribed tasks, plus a free choice.
I’ve tried to select a variety of fun images to trigger thoughts, questions and memories, inspiring children of all grades, to want to write.
There are recording Sheets to track progress.
The cards ask questions to get the creative juices flowing, and the writing tasks include various genre, for example: narrative, expository, persuasive, journal entries, lists, raps and “how to” instructions.
Students don't share the same experiences, backgrounds and values, so some of them find it difficult to come up with ideas for writing. This lack of ideas stresses them, and the situation spirals.
I find using pictures as motivation is supportive and non-threatening.
I've included an Australian spelling version on A4 paper. Just print the version you want, laminate and they’re ready to go!
So many uses! Writing, discussion starters, fast finishers, homework, journals.
This is SET 5. Of course there are earlier sets, and a bundle with all five.
