ASSESSING SPECIFIC WRITING SKILLS
ALINGNED WITH COMMON CORE
KID FRIENDLY, FLEXIBLE, TIME SAVER FOR TEACHERS!
This convention rubric is great for assessing students' writing across the curriculum. Since the same rubric is used for all genres this rubric can be used to assess conventions for a social studies informational paper, a science experiment lab report, or even a literature assignment. I have included a description of usage and a teacher sample.
Also available - Four rubrics for each assessing each writing domain; ideas, organization, style, and conventions. These rubrics are designed to use to assess student writing on the specific writing skills taught. In other words - The rubric matches writing skills taught in Common Core. They are in kid friendly language of the standards. The rubrics are designed to be used in all genres. The individual rubric give the teacher flexibility in using the specific rubric(s) that fit the needs of your students.
My students tell me they like having one rubric they are familiar with. The Students know exactly the domain and skills are their strengths and weaknesses.
The rubric is designed to also give a numeric grade if needed. These rubrics help students and parents easily understand the area(s) of strength and weaknesses in the student’s writing.
