This is a differentiated, cross-curricular activity that brings social studies into the English Language Arts or reading classroom. Students read and learn about Anne Frank and the WWII Holocaust while learning to use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. Help reinforce key history terms to review World War II while learning reading strategies for informational texts.
Students are then asked to perform two different vocabulary activities using key vocabulary about the Holocaust from the original text. They start with fill-in the blank sentences and then write their own sentences using the new vocabulary terms.
Finally, there are three levels of differentiated reading comprehension questions related to the text. Depending on the level, the questions may be short answer or multiple-choice.
