- 1. Chapter Preview Sheets: I do these with every chapter to allow the students to at least see what we are going to be studying before the unit begins. I have included 2 different versions of the Chapter Preview sheet.

- 2: Great Depression PPT Begin by teaching the Great Depression/1920's and the Rise of Fascism and what it is so the students are really clear. I have also included a student fill in document that goes with the teaching. I have made the teaching both in PPT/ and Keynote so that it is accessible for all.

- BONUS As a bonus you could do a concept attainment with fascism to make sure the students got it by watching a short clip of Pink Floyd the Wall to see how many things fit as true fascist activities. The problem with the clip is that it is from a rated R movie so be careful not to go beyond the districts policies of movies.

- 3. Rise of the 3 Dictators Teaching the rise of the 3 dictators. Mussolini, Stalin and Hitler. There is a fill in document that goes with the teaching. I have made the teaching both in PPT/ and Keynote.

- 4. Writing Assignment I use the 4th day to launch the writing assignment. The writing assignment asks the students to compare 2 of the dictators and contrast 2 of the dictators. I use my paragraph sheet that I have included below.

- 5. Totalitarian HW Assignment
If for some reason you are feeling that the students need some more work to do and that they are not getting it after doing all of the above I have made an additional HW assignment that is 4 pages in length and does a really good job of making sure they know who is who before going into WWII.

This makes writing so much easier when you have a proper template to have them write to.

After I have taught it and launched my writing assignment we will watch 2 videos on class. I have the students take notes on both of them to make sure they are guided with their watching and that they are not just zoning out.

- VIDEO #1: Fascism in Color video I have the students watch this in its entirety as it does the best job of showing and explaining Mussolini's career and life. If you need the second clip please email me as I do have it and can send it to you.

FREE PRINTABLE MAPS II

- 3. WWII PPT: 62 slide PDF / PowerPoint of 4-5 days of direct or flipped classroom instruction. I have my students take notes in Cornell style during this presentation. This presentation is very visual and is a wonderful way to walk the students through the war. I have them take Cornell notes while the presentation is going. I have also added the rebuilding or Europe PPT which closes out the chapter.

- 4. Vocab:These are the key terms from the unit to go over in class and say together. I always do this with the class as it makes a bigger impression and it makes sure that they know certain terms as they come up.

- 9. WWII reading: This is a wonderful HW assignment that allows students to get a good overview of the war in a short summary type format. There are questions that go with this as well or you can close read it in class.

- 10. WWII Test and Quizzes I have included a review sheet and key with this 40 question multiple choice test.

- 11. WWII Video Project: There are so many great videos out there I like my students to watch at least 1-2 of them in groups and discuss. This is the one way I can see that getting done as to not take 1-2 weeks to show it in class. I have included links to all the videos as well.

- 12. WWII Worksheet: This is for those traditionalists who like worksheets and fill in the blank lessons. I figured I should include it in case people want to have this for a sub.

- 13. Mankind the Story of all of US:
Here is what is included:
- A question sheet in WORD format that will keep the students following along.
- Answers to the question sheet
- A set of notes that can be referenced for a discussion following the video.

-BONUS: History Channel Mankind Story of US Guide

This 12th episode is good for either junior high or high school as it deals with NEW FRONTIER, Farming, Alcan Highway, Atomic Bomb, heart transplant and Selma 1965 I think this episode would work well with either Jr. High or High school.

The end of the Civil War allows Mankind to go into overdrive. This is an age of innovation, transformation and mass production. People believe that "Anything, everything, is possible." Japan goes from feudal society to industrial superpower within 50 years. But progress has its dark side. The demand for rubber devastates Africa. And the desire to build bigger, faster, better leads to a titanic disaster…Mankind takes on godlike powers: to feed billions of people, reshape the landscape, re-engineer the human body. The greatest power of all was unleashed over Hiroshima on August 6th 1945. Since entering the Atomic Age we've been living between eternity and oblivion. But at the same time, we've become more connected as a species. 100,000 years ago there were a few thousand hunter-gatherers on the African savannah. Today there are 7 billion of us in every corner of the globe. It's been an amazing journey.

READING AND WRITING

Here is what is included:

- Bibliography PPT
- DBQ resources
- Cloze Reading sheet
- How to outline
- Mission statement
- Chapter Preview
- Guest Speaker Questions
- MLA/ MEMO
- Read Around sheet
- Paragraph Sheet
- How to write a book review

These are all the writing and reading activities that I use on a weekly basis. You will get a 11 activities in total as a BUNDLE.

1. Bibliography PPT: This will allow the user to walk the students through a short bibliography PPT.

2. DBQ stuff: I have included everything you need to know about writing a DBQ with the PPT/Keynote that goes along with it. This will have the 11 steps to writing a DBQ paragraph and the reflection sheet following the writing of the DBQ to get feedback from the students. I have also included a DBQ reading sheet and paragraph writing sheet that is really useful as it will tell you what to write and when to write it. This is probably the most useful thing I use when writing DBQ's.

3. Cloze Reading sheet: This will give the students some additional direction while reading in class. It is one page and is a really handy tool.

4. How to Outline: I believe this skill is the one thing that helped get me through college. I feel it is necessary to know how to organize large amounts of information.

5. Mission Statement: How to write your own personal mission statement for your life. This is cool as it starts with a word bank and goes down in 5 easy steps.

6. Chapter Preview: This is a great way to have the students preview the chapter prior to actually studying it. I do this in class the day after the test or on the day of the test for HW.

7. Guest Speaker Questions: This is a set of guest speaker questions that is great to have available for when guest speakers come in. I always keep it handy in case things start to get a little stale.

8. MLA/Memo: This teaches how to write a memo or MLA format. Both formats are necessary for life and I love to give the students the tools to be successful.

9. Read Around Sheet: The read around sheet is a way for students to get in groups of 2 or 3 and read each others papers. It does not matter if it is a DBQ or a paragraph. Feedback is everything and with 230 students it gets tough.

10. Paragraph Sheet: Probably my favorite resource that I have used over the years. I love this paragraph sheet because it just makes sense. I love teaching things that make sense to me and this just makes sense. Enjoy!

11. How to write a book review: This allows students to review the books they are reading mostly for EC. The review has the students go through 6 steps to make sure that they can prove that they have read the book.
