A Rhyming Game
This game includes 39 rhyming picture pair cards, 21 non-rhyming picture pair cards, a game board to copy for each child, and Rhyming and Non- Rhyming labels for a pocket chart.
Small Group Game
Each child will need a game board and 9 markers. I use black stackers or unifix cubes to represent seeds. Children will take turns drawing a card. They will name the 2 pictures on the card. If the 2 pictures rhyme, they will cover one of their watermelons with a marker. They won’t cover a watermelon if the 2 pictures don’t rhyme. The child that covers all of their watermelons first is the winner.
Divide the rhyming cards and non-rhyming cards between the children. They will sort the cards by rhyming words and non-rhyming words.
Whole Group Rhyme Sort
Place the Rhyming and Non-Rhyming labels in a pocket chart. Give each child a card to place under the appropriate label.
