Laminate and cut the picture cards. Challenge students to sort the cards by the /r/ controlled vowel. Differentiation is built right in as you can limit the number of cards used (or use them ALL!) Further differentiate the lesson by challenging students to record six words from each category. Need more? Put the cards away and the additional page assesses student’s decoding when they are asked to illustrate the words provided. This is a quick and easy-to-assemble activity that’s sure to make your students “Wacky for Watermelon,” too!
