This unit uses Waiting for Godot as the main piece. The supporting pieces are classics of literature which philosophically tie in with Godot. They include Esslin's related essay "Search for Self," Vaughan's poem "Man," the crucifixion story according to Luke, "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," Plato's "Allegory of the Cave," and T.S. Elliot's "Hollow Men." There are two modified A.P essay prompts, reading logs for each act of Godot, group and individual activities related to the Allegory, and study guides for other pieces. Questions for student seminar included. Final test covers all pieces used. There are answer keys for all. While aimed towards A.P. English IV, it can be modified. This unit has worked well for my students.
