"Wake Me Up" By Avicii and Aloe Blacc Song Lyrics Common Core Figurative Language and Poetry Analysis Activities - Aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Reading, Language, and Writing
Use popular music to engage students! Play Avicii's song "Wake Me Up" (partially written by and sung by Aloe Blacc) and have students analyze the lyrics for figurative language, poetic, and rhetorical devices.
In addition, I included activities for the following "carpe diem" poems to use as theme comparisons:
“To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” by Robert Herrick
“The Layers” by Stanley Kunitz
“O Me! O Life!” by Walt Whitman
“First Fig” by Edna St. Vincent Millay
“A Shropshire Lad, II” by A. E. Housman
Perfect for 1:1 schools: I included a student copy of the activities in Microsoft Word so you can share it digitally with your students.
-23 pages of student activities (differentiated for all levels)
-10 pages of a detailed Teacher's Answer Key
-13-page Microsoft Word student copy
-Common Core alignment labeled on the activities
ALSO INCLUDES: Foldable Activities for Reader's or Writer's Notebooks
-Six interactive activities for student notebooks
