This activity is an awesome way to have students practice for their final exam (also known as MSL, Common Assessment, etc.). The assignment features an excerpt from Walden by Henry David Thoreau and asks students to rely on the excerpt to answer five multiple choice questions.
For the constructed response portion, students must describe Thoreau's purpose in going to the woods, and support their claim with at least two pieces of textual evidence. A rubric is included. The rubric shows students how they'll be graded while also providing the teacher with grading instructions.
This activity aligns with the following Common Core Essential Standards: RL.9-12.1, RL.9-12.2, RL.9-12.4, W.9-12.4
