The 'Walk In Two Worlds' Song teaches the value of heritage and traditions as well as learning in school. Both are necessary to be successful in life.

Teaches Aboriginal Language, values of heritage and culture

Nahedee Oki Natsédeh was an amazing project. I was working with the South Slavey traditional language teacher from Kátł’odeeche First Nation to produce a multimedia project with Dene students from Chief Sunrise School.

The project explored how the students at Chief Sunrise are learning to walk in two worlds. One is the academic world at school, preparing them with the necessary education and skills to succeed in the world.

The other road is learning the traditional ways and language. This involves learning to speak South Slavey, as well as spending one day a week out on the land ice fishing, building fires, setting trap lines, cooking bannock, skinning rabbits, learning about trees, plants, waterways and animal tracks.

Nahedee Oki Natsédeh is 3:19 long and part of the Songs From Schools series of lessons that make values meaningful, using music to reinforce character values that I'm sure you're already trying to teach your students. Things like respect, confidence, empathy, being a good friend and creating a safe and supportive culture in the classroom.
