The purpose of this resource is to create an active maths lesson where pupils get out of their desks to complete the task. The focus of the task is to assess pupils’ understanding of hundreds, tens and units as represented on a notation board.
Laminate and cut out the twenty six cards. On each card is a notation board and a large letter of the alphabet. Place these cards randomly around the classroom or around the school to create a type of maths trail.
Print out a copy of the Pupil Answer Sheet for each pupil/pair. When the pupil finds each card on their “Walkabout” they record the number they see on the notation board beside the appropriate letter on their answer sheet.
An answer sheet for the teacher is also provided.
