This dramatic ballad memorializes the Civil War and honors our American military personnel and veterans. It is set for unison voice and includes a soundtrack and a full score for piano and voice if you prefer live accompaniment. It is suitable for any occasion and is sure to leave a lasting impression on both your students and your audience. The message of the song can very easily be used as an introduction to class discussion related to the history of the Civil War, Black History, and even slavery. The fact that “all” men were not made free at the signing of the Declaration of Independence adds context to understanding the plight of the African American slave and the historical setting in which the Civil War was fought. It has been performed by 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students; however, older students may also benefit from the historic elements of the piece. The preview recording is a live performance by the Columbia County Elementary Honor Choir. Permission is granted to the purchaser to make copies as needed for rehearsals and performances for one ensemble for one school year.
