Product Description
This activity was created to be used with the Thinkport website on the War of 1812. Students will listen and watch as 8 Americans give their reasons for and against going to war with Great Britain.
They will record their arguments on a graphic organizer, weigh the strength of those arguments, and then write a letter to President Madison stating their beliefs about the best course of action for our country. This activity includes graphic organizer, answer key to graphic organizer, follow up questions, writing prompt, and grading scale. The components used in the grading scale were taken from the Common Core Standards for English and Literacy in History/argumentative writing. I used this activity after introducing the British violations of neutrality and impressment of U.S. sailors.
