This interactive internet scavenger hunt is a engaging and technology based activity for students to learn about the causes and events of the War of 1812. Students will first look up the definitions to various terms that will be discussed throughout the scavenger hunt. Then, they will research using various given websites to learn when and why the War of 1812 occured. They will learn what the effects of the war were including the burning of the White House and Capitol building. Students will also research the background of the Star Spangled Banner.

This activity is aligned to the following state standard:

SS4H5 The student will analyze the challenges faced by the new nation.

e. Describe the causes and events of the War of 1812; include the burning of the Capitol and the White House.
