PowerPoint & Notes - This PowerPoint and corresponding notes handout provides students with an introduction to the War of 1812. It introduces students to the troubles that began with Britain in the 1800s. It discusses why America went to war with Britain as well as the outcome of the war. It teaches students about Francis Scott Key and why he wrote the "Star Spangled Banner". It also discusses the burning of the White House and Capitol.
Internet Scavenger Hunt - This interactive internet scavenger hunt is a engaging and technology based activity for students to learn about the causes and events of the War of 1812. Students will first look up the definitions to various terms that will be discussed throughout the scavenger hunt. Then, they will research using various given websites to learn when and why the War of 1812 occured. They will learn what the effects of the war were including the burning of the White House and Capitol building. Students will also research the background of the Star Spangled Banner.
