This is a great warm up podcast to start any physical education class. I have recently started using podcasting and technology in my class and my students are loving this new warm up. Instead of stretching your students on squad spots and having them take a lap around the gym or play area, try this warm up that has music, running and age appropriate stretching for elementary and middle school students. This warm up focuses on the abdominals while getting students heart rates up and ready for physical activity. Students can work at their own pace and you as the teacher can motivate and help students reach their best.
Think of this podcast as flipping your classroom for 6 minutes and 33 seconds! Just explain to your students that we are doing a different type of warm up today. They are to listen to the instructions and then do what is asked of them to do. Just press play and you have just become a teacher assistant in your own class where you can participate in the warm up, motivate and encourage students, help individual students on technique or even set up your class for the next activity. Sometimes just having that extra few minutes to get yourself ready for class is all you need.
Please give it a try and you will surely see the value this podcast brings to your class. Greet you class at the door. Explain to them what will happen briefly and just hit play. The next 6:33 will take care of itself!
