In order to help my students understand the writing process, I often have them peer edit their work using warm and cool feedback. This graphic organizer first asks students to identify various essential parts of an essay using different colored pencils, such as the introduction, evidence, conclusion, etc. Then, students must provide warm and cool feedback for their peers. Warm feedback tells the writer what worked, while cool feedback consists of constructive criticism. The graphic organizer even comes complete with sentence starters!
