In my class I have a short warm-up that takes students about 10 minutes to complete and go over the answers as well. This is Monday thru Thursday. On Friday they use that 10 minutes to review the warm-ups for the week and then take a short quiz over the material. This gives me the advantage of reviewing material in short chunks all year long. I change the quizzes depending on which material classes are having difficulty remembering. If one year students have a hard time remembering the difference between physical and chemical changes they will see a warm-up dealing with that many times throughout the year.
This is a word document that includes 38 weeks of warm-ups and quizzes and answers. Yes, there are repeats. You will see “label the parts of an atom” several times as well as others. You can mix and match warm-ups and quizzes depending on your curriculum. Most quizzes are short enough that you can put two to a page.
