Engage your students in a deep-dive with primary source analysis as they investigate the impact of Brown v. Board of Education decision on school segregation. Using a jigsaw format, students join one of six expert groups with each group being assigned a distinct set of documents (each set contains multiple documents and the sets vary in their perspectives as well as types of documents). Using these documents, students complete a data retrieval form building their document analysis skills while applying the documents to the inquiry presented. In their jigsaw groups, students collaborate to create a larger understanding and sharing of their findings while assessing the overall impact of the case.
The activity and product also includes an introduction handout to the key case, a lesson plan for the teacher, a link to a current event article, and a closing reflection activity.
