Product Description
Welcome to 1941 and pre-World War II United States of America.

Farm Security Administration photographer Jack Delano visited the new airport in Washington, D.C. in July of 1941. He spent at least two days there; this slideshow is a compilation of what he saw.

Come along for a fascinating virtual visit to a busy 1941 airport. There are views of fashionable visitors, intriguing electronics—including the "tickers" in the teletype room— and popular early airliners. I have grouped selected photos according to topic, and explanatory text (in addition to any captions provided by Mr. Delano) has been added where appropriate.

Table of Contents:

Introduction
Terminal Building and Waiting Room
Control Tower
Teletype Room (weather and news reports; it also used "ticker tape" of the kind used for parades)
Baggage Handling
Getting Ready to Go
A Rainy Day on the Ramp

Enjoy a view of life in an era before (long before) Twitter and Instagram.
