Choice of two literary essays with rubric for use when reading both “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle” by Washington Irving. Students will examine the story for specific examples and provide analysis in response to the questions. Planning worksheet included. This assignment allows flexibility—students can either be directed to pick one of the two available topics or they can be assigned both essay choices. Useful as a good capstone for a unit featuring the two stories.
