This lesson covers Washington Irving’s short story “The Devil and Tom Walker.”
The first PowerPoint will introduce students to the Romantic period and consists of 9 slides.
The second PowerPoint consists of 10 slides and includes essential questions, discussion questions, literary terms, and a homework assignment.
The handout features an activity for students to complete while in groups. Each student in the group will have a role and responsibilities they must complete while they read the short story (or can be read as a class).
The roles include Discussion Director, Vocabulary Enricher, Literary Luminary, and Literary Investigator.
These roles will enable students to have a discussion about the short story with each other and can help each other understand vocabulary and application of literary terms.
This lesson was very successful with my students!
