Students will read several excerpts from George Washington's Farewell Address. Questions will help students analyze the Address to gain a better understanding of Washington's thoughts on Political Parties, Sectionalism, Public Education, Economics, Foreign Policy, and his Legacy.
Teaching Tip: Turn this into a collaborative learning experience. Assignment small groups of students one of the topics addressed in the reading (Foreign Policy, Political Parties, etc), have them work together on the analysis questions, then use a jigsaw strategy so students can teach the class about their assigned topic. Student groups may also create a poster that summarizes one of the topics.
