This journal is designed to demonstrate student growth over the year. Therefore, many of the skills are repeated so that students can clearly show the progress that they have made over time. Teachers can use this to show parents, other faculty, and administrators the ways that students have progressed. I have found this to be extremely helpful for students who may not yet be to grade level, but have made significant strides in their development. The skills are aligned to the Common Core Standards for Kindergarten. Although every month (August – June) is included, teachers have the freedom monitor progress every month, every three months, or even just at the beginning and end of the school year – it’s totally up to you! Also, most of the skills are isolated onto one page. Therefore, if you know there is a skill that you have not or will not cover (especially if you are using this in PreK or Transitional Kindergarten), you can simply leave those pages out. Here is what is included for each month:
• Coloring Page for the Month
• Name Writing
• Drawing/Coloring Picture of Themselves
• Writing Letters (Tracing and Independently)
• Naming Letters
• Naming Letter Sound(s)
• Writing Numbers 0-20
