Product Description
This activity is one that you can challenge the students at any age level as a warm-up, game, or assessment using the following concepts: speed, quickness, teamwork, sportsmanship, throwing, catching, balancing, communication, mathematical skills of adding, body control, and hand-eye coordination. This activity is called “ watch your step,” which has two students partnered together working on the act of throwing and catching while incorporating balancing. The activity can be modified to work at any age depending on how well you are able to adapt your lessons from k-12. The lower grades can use different types of equipment that are larger to balance on and the older students can be challenged by using smaller objects to balance while working on hand-eye coordination skills. This activity is a good way to get the class into partnerships, but can be used as small group teams. This activity can be used as a station in your class or some type of elimination challenge to see which partnership or team can communicate and work together the best. A good to way to possibly test a student’s throwing accuracy while throwing to a target – their partner. Can assess a student’s catching ability based on how many times they can catch an object in a row or while being in a stationary position. Overall, if you are looking for a different challenge this could be one for you to try. Remember activities like these can always be modified using your own techniques to fit your class and students.
