This poem/song is a fun way to reinforce concepts about the water cycle! It can be read/sung to the tune of the traditional “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” song. Two versions are included; the first includes pictures for each of the four verses, and the second contains boxes for students to draw their own pictures for each verse. There is also some space under each verse so you can have them write which part of the water cycle each verse describes. The first is evaporation, the second is condensation, the third is precipitation, and the fourth is evaporation again. Students can also highlight words in the verses that are direct clues as to which part of the water cycle is described. They could even act out the poem! Lots of fun options to help our students understand the water cycle using this poem!
This includes the basic water cycle with the steps of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. But even if you teach more in-depth concepts such as transpiration, surface runoff, groundwater, etc., this will still help form a more solid understanding of the water cycle at its core!
