Students of all ages have fun doing this easy experiment!
Students try to figure out how many drops of water can fit on a penny, and also test which types of water work best (Tap water, Salt water, Soapy water).
This activity helps students to see and experience the properties of water- including Adhesion, Cohesion, and Surface Tension. It also helps them practice graphing, determining independent and dependent variables, and analyzing experimental results.
Includes a 2-page student worksheet (.docx and .pdf formats) and an Excel document to help figure out class averages.
Supplies needed per student or lab group:
• 3 cups with water (tap, salt, and soapy)
• Eye droppers (1 per water type to avoid cross contamination)
• Paper towels for clean up
