There is a tremendous amount of science in wax paper and water activities, not to mention that the activities are fun and colorful! Activities are based on the principle that wax paper repels water drops. To start, beautiful rainbow designs can be made that will inspire creativity! Other water bead diagrams can be made with the two templates provided (flower and dinosaur). The dried images can actually be trimmed and be put into student notebooks.
The surface tension of water also allows children to move water drops through a maze. There are three methods to run this activity and two copies of water mazes are included: one easy-level and one more challenging. There is also a fun game where students move a large water bead that will “eat” smaller drops and become larger as it collects them!
There is also good science in comparing the mobility of different liquids on the wax paper for the Liquid Race Activity. A student result sheet is provided for this activity. Finally, there is a 14-word word search provided with answer key. The word search contains wax science words and can be given to students who finish early.
