PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This one page worksheet is for use with a teacher-led states of matter experiment where students start with cups of warm and cold water and small amounts of salt, sugar, baking soda, and "mystery powder" (Kool Aid). Students will predict which temperature dissolves solids faster. With the teacher's direction, students will time how long each solid takes to dissolve in the warm water and the cold water. They will record their observations on a table and write their results.

The activity can be done whole group or in small groups. It aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning for 1st grade: 1.1 (thinking like a scientist) and 1.3 (matter and water).
