In this unit, your students will get hands on practice with missing addends in a fun an engaging way! This can be done in several ways. The ones mentioned below are suggestions, but the sky is the limit! I hope you find this unit as fun and engaging as it has been in my own classroom.!
Use as a whole group lesson, using the first part of the product to introduce and practice the concept. As added practice, pass out a copy of a blank watermelon and seeds to have students practice as you give example problems. As an alternative to the seed copies, real beans or seeds can also be used!
Use in a small group/teacher table setting to practice with students using either the first examples and/or the blank pages.
Use as a center for additional practice! You can pre-fill with the numbers you would like, provide the first examples, or have students roll a dice, etc. to fill in the numbers to practice with.
*There is even an independent practice sheet at the end for assessment and accountability. Use it in math journals, as independent practice, whatever!
