"As we continue through The Watsons go to Birmingham, each student will be taking on the persona of one of the Watson family members. We will work throughout the novel creating entries for this character’s travel journal. Each entry should be written, drawn, reflected on, or imagined from the point of view of the chosen character. Use Byron’s imagination or Joey’s attitude to make your character’s identity come alive through your pages."
This is the introduction for the Vacation Scrapbook project I created to use as a final assessment for Watsons. This is a great final project because of its strong use of differentiation: There are different options of entries (each worth different points) that students can choose from in order to create a 50 point project.
Entry options include:
-Travel Journal. Create a road map that your character would follow to get to Birmingham, including landmarks he/she would want to stop at, hotels, and fuel costs. (This is a great way to add research to the project and I have included websites to help students such as a 1960s cost estimator and road map planner)
-Pictures of settings
-A car game your character would have created
This product includes:
-Handout to give students, including description of overall project; goals/objective for project; detailed description of each possible entry; rubric aligned to Common Core
