Complete unit on light as a wave and a particle. Unit breaks down the concept of wave-particle duality for students who tend to not be as motivated as honors and AP students. Unit is a 10 day coverage of resonance, diffraction, interference, reflection, photoelectric effect, the double slit experiment and the how each supports the wave and/or particle model. Supports Common Core ELA standards with reading and writing and NGSS HS-PS4-3: Evaluate the claims, evidence, and reasoning behind the idea that electromagnetic radiation can be described either by a wave model or a particle model, and that for some situations one model is more useful than the other.
A fun little activity to do with the kids before even giving them the packet is to have them shine a flashlight on a quarter and you can see a dark part in the middle of the quarter's shadow. You can then get them asking questions about this phenomena.
