• Puzzles for the numbers 10-20. Pieces for EACH number puzzle include numerals, number words, tally marks, ten frames, pictures, cubes (stick of 10 and some more), number sentences (10 and __ more), dominoes, and missing number sequences (10, 11, __).
• Number puzzle mats to aid in forming the puzzles.
I recommend printing the puzzles on white cardstock and laminating for durability. Puzzle pieces should then be cut apart. It is up to you if you want to store each number’s pieces separate or not! I have found that the puzzle mats really help students put the pieces together.
I keep the puzzles at centers for practice recognizing numerals, counting, and understanding and using the different representations numbers can have. The kids love trying to get the pieces to fit JUST RIGHT to put the puzzles together. Nothing like some ENGAGEMENT during centers when I’m super busy working with other students!
These puzzles have really helped my kindergarten students understand base ten. “10 and some more” is really difficult for little learners! However, these puzzles offer ample practice working with the concepts found in base ten.
