This station/game allows older students to practice reading words with the /sh/ sound, spelled in different ways. This station may best be suited as a teacher or adult guided activity to help students read the words and make sure the words are read correctly. Great for older grades phonics intervention groups.
When I introduce this station, I usually go over the different ways to spell the /sh/ sound with students and show them those spellings on the cards. I then go over the word lists with the students and have them read the words aloud. Finally, we play the game. Students will take turns drawing a card and reading the word on the card. If they read the word correctly, they roll the die and move the indicated number of spaces. If they are unsuccessful in reading the word,
they lose a turn and try again next time.
