PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This article, which is adapted from our teaching guides, explores the narrative foundation of the Hero’s Journey pattern. It also explains how the journey can strengthen your teaching and help your students better understand literature, film and life.

We do live “in our stories.” As neurobiologist Michael Gazzaniga says, our brains, “Take input from other areas of our brain and from the environment and synthesizes it into a story.” This is why the Hero’s Journey, or narrative pattern, is common to all cultures in all times.

This ubiquity makes the journey a powerful teaching tool for improving comprehension, boosting recall and helping students relate literary themes and concepts to their own lives.
