In my middle school classroom, I have students take ownership by requiring each of them to be an employee of some sort throughout the year. One of these jobs is the absent administrator. He/ she uses the "We Missed You" document to fill out for an absent person. That absent person can speak to this employee for clarification before coming to me to figure out what they missed. If the Absent Administrator is absent that day, it becomes the job of the "Secretary" employee to complete this task. Using the document (available in my TpT store) Calendar for Absences, I have the calendar printed for each of my 4 classes. They simply write down the name of the student who is absent in the date to keep track of absences. Any documents or handouts get stapled to the half sheet (I usually print these on pink paper), and placed in the appropriate day of the week folder in the Absent Area of my classroom.
