Product Description
World War II brought about some of the most inspirational speeches ever delivered. In the midst of the darkness and bloodshed of the era, Winston Churchill stood out like a beacon of hope and honor. This primary source analysis delves into one of Churchill's most iconic speeches, "We Shall Fight on the Beaches," delivered shortly after the retreat at Dunkirk in 1940. The speech comprises six pages of this activity; response questions make up the next three pages. The activity also includes a teacher key.

As a teacher using this resource, I like to read the speech out loud with my students. We will work through the questions as we go. This helps with reading retention and comprehension. In this case, it would take the entire class period to complete this analysis. Another way that this could be used is to actually evaluate student's retention and comprehension by having them work on this in class or at home individually.

Please note that there are spelling differences between English used in the United Kingdom and the United States.

This speech has been edited for length, not content.

Includes: Speech, Analysis Questions, and Teacher Key
