This is a student viewing guide for Episode 5 of the PBS series We Shall Remain. Episode 5 is entitled "Wounded Knee" and deals with the standoff between Natives on the Pine Ridge Reservation and the United States government in the 1970s. It also contains a very informative segment on boarding schools.
Please note that this is the guide only: You would have to obtain the video from PBS. You should also note that this is about the Wounded Knee Standoff in the 1970s; it is not about the Wounded Knee Massacre. You should preview the video before showing it, as it does contain some rather strong language.
The video guide is made to be accessible for any student, from special education through high school. I would not recommend the series to students younger than high school aged unless they are advanced or gifted.
While I've attempted to include some questions that involve higher steps on Bloom's taxonomy, the video guide is primarily intended to help students follow along and focus on the most important things in the video.
There are 20 questions to answer while viewing the video and one in-depth, higher-order thinking question to answer after the video is over.
An answer key is also included. This key also includes divisions by sections in case you choose to show the video one segment at a time.
Instead of purchasing a single episode, you can purchase all of the guides in one file for $3.98 at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/We-Shall-Remain-Complete-Series-Video-Guides-1405864.
