"We are a Family" by Mallory Hill is a children's book appropriate for K-3rd grade students. Each section is told from a different child's point of view, talking about their family. Every family is different. Some kids have big families, some live with grandparents, some have single parents, and some come from adoptive families. The book teaches kids who come from traditional two-family homes that other, diverse family structures exist. For kids who come from unique households, it shows them that their family structure is recognized in the classroom as wonderful and good. This lesson plan gives you everything you need to teach this book, and get to know where each of your students comes from. The lesson is written for either older students or younger students, with tiered activities based on the grade you teach. All activity sheets are included, CommonCore standards, and goals.
