Included in this set are three activities and a weather station set designed to meet the NGSS kindergarten standards about weather:
-Use and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time.
-Ask questions to obtain information about the purpose of weather forecasting to prepare for, and respond to, severe weather.
The activities included are as follows:
-Weather Station and Data Charts for tracking daily weather in a kindergarten-friendly way
-Severe Weather Preparation Collage
All of the activities are hands-on and kindergarten friendly. The activities require some materials, but most of them are common classroom objects such as newspapers and magazines. One requires an expert in the field but some ideas for contacting such a person are included. The activities can be completed in groups, individually, in pairs, or as a whole group depending on your specific classroom needs. Each activity includes the materials needed, directions, and reflection questions.
The simple weather station is designed to be used in a pocket chart. It includes tags that read "sunny," "rainy," "cloudy," "snowy," "windy," and "stormy." It also has a "thermometer" for recording whether the temperature is hot, warm, cool, or cold. Also included are charts in all colors for recording the data each day.
