UPDATED with additions: snow forecasting and blizzards.
BETTER THAN EVER! A MUST to any weather classroom.
Check out the preview! This differentiated lab activity is VERY COOL! Weather doesn't get any better than this! A beautiful and dynamic blend of geography and weather. Kids love it! Students begin by identifying various weather symbols: fronts, pressure systems, and weather conditions. This knowledge is then applied to specific weather variables like temperature, sky cover, and precipitation. This lab is made really special in the fact that it contains great weather maps, REAL professional forecasting techniques, and a comprehensive understanding of the atmosphere as a whole.
The level 1 version can be used for grades 6-9. It has been extremely successful in college prep and special education classes.
There are 2 other versions, a level 2, and a combination of level 1 and 2. Newly added is a 3 day weather forecast activity/lab incorporating all the atmospheric variables into a meteorological knowledge fusion!
The 3 day weather forecast lab involves a real series of weather map analysis over a 3 day period for specific cities like Atlanta, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Madison. It's dynamic and so much fun. As a cool bonus, the Blizzard of 1996 is also featured so students can also present a detailed 3 day weather forecast for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - ground zero for that historic snowstorm - their largest snowstorm ever! By the end your student will have the "know how" of a real television meteorologist!
Also, fantastic for special education students and homeschooled students.
Great feedback from students, parents, teachers, and administrators!
Within the classroom, this activity has been consistently successful and verbally acclaimed by students in grades 5th – 10th within multiple schools - public, private, and charter.
This work has also been shared at workshops, in-services, and conferences.
