(7 pages) This is a simple, but very interesting activity in which students use actual hurricane data from NOAA. Students will plot the daily locations of an historic hurricane (HUGO, 1989), and then color code each of these plots to show the storm's daily wind speed/category. Analysis of their storm data gives students a foundation to answer common questions about these massive storms ...... Where to hurricanes develop? ..... Where do hurricanes "power up"? ...... What happens to a hurricane's strength when it passes over land?
