The weather maps project is a project that I completed with a 4th grade gifted class, however, this project could be altered and used for 4th-7th grades. The project requires students "act" as a weather woman/man and show the current weather on their chosen weather map. Each student is assigned a different type of weather map (satellite, radar, temperature, wind speed, front maps). With each map assignment the student has a selection of questions (about 4-5) about that type of map. In addition, they must research that type of map and add symbols, etc. based on the day's weather and their type of map to a blank map of the United States (they can look up and print out a blank U.S. map). For the final part of the assignment, students will give a presentation as a "weather man/woman" about their type of map, showing today's weather and giving facts about their type of map. This project allowed students to not only research the information, but apply it to a project/activity.
