WINTER STORM WARNING Nothing gets kids more excited about weather like snow! Snow forecasting is the most difficult forecast for a meteorologist to make.

This is part of the whole activity/lab found at the TPT site below:

FULL VERSION CLICK HERE

The first activity is presented by a national surface weather map incorporating air pressure, fronts, hazards, and precipitation types. For the national map, students assign the general weather forecast, national summary, and 2 city photographs. The second activity is presented by a regional surface weather map incorporating station models, temperature, dewpoint temperature, air pressure, wind direction, wind speed, precipitation, cloudiness, and forecasting. Students evaluate numerous cities based on station model data with a focus on one city assigning a station model, image, and specific weather forecast.

The third activity highlights atmospheric factors and terminology specific to nor’easters (East coast snowstorms) including air masses and their properties, fronts, hazards, assigned images to specific sectors of the mid-latitude cyclone, and nor’easter terminology.

Very special cut and paste, Smartboard, or Velcro and laminate activity that challenges many learners based on how the information is presented. The instructor decides the difficulty!

This works well for any level but is GREAT for special education students or college prep learners that need an alternative assessment and may not be great at traditional labs.

Also, perfect for homeschooling!

WIDE RANGE OF ABILITY LEVELS! The application to a diverse body of learners, whether it be age or ability level, is predicated on the fact that the instructor determines the difficulty level of the whole activity or part of the activity based on what information is given and what information is not as well as how verbal questions are presented to the student(s).

This is a DYNAMIC activity that covers pertinent information about weather maps and forecasting. This has been used as a pre-class, lab/activity, study guide, review, and assessment. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.

A guaranteed hit all around!

A great addition to your meteorology teaching library.

Within the classroom, this activity has been consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 3rd – 9th within multiple types of schools - public, private, and charter.

This work has also been shared at workshops, in-services, and conferences.

Great feedback from parents, teachers, and administrators.

Applicable to many state science assessments and benchmarks.

Even used by teachers in New York State as a preparation for the Earth Science Grade 9 Regents Exam.
