Dusty Viniard: The Crazy Spanish Store
Spanish 2 Group Activity
OVERVIEW: I never made it to weather expressions in my Spanish 1 class, so I needed a project that was relatively quick but gave them a good review of weather vocabulary and also exercised some new concepts that we had learned like regular verb conjugation, present progressive and weather. I also needed something that was a “productive” sub plan that wouldn’t just be busy work. Because weather expressions should have been done in Spanish 1, I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of time on this unit.
DESCRIPTION: Work in groups of 4 to design posters only in Spanish outlining seasons and various activities that you do during that season.
PROJECT INCLUDES: Worksheet for students outlining project and the scoring guide to be cut off and attached to the project when it is turned in.
TIME IT TOOK: Approximately 3 class periods (53 min) to work in groups..maybe 1 extra if you really want to check rough drafts and help them.
HOW I USED: I used this actually as a sub plan when I was out for a couple days but found that the students had some confusion. This ended up taking me about 3 (53min) classes where they had time to work and could bring sentences up for me to check. They can also use the scoring guide to grade themselves (PROGRAM REVIEW!). I used their score as a quiz grade, which in my grade book is (30% of their grade aka formative assessment).
SKILLS ASSESSED: Use of weather expressions, present tense conjugations, noun-adj agreement, present progressive.
