STATION MODELS AND VARIOUS STORM ACTIVITIES

SURFACE AND UPPER AIR MAPS: BLIZZARD OF 2016
--------------------
A comprehensive meteorological tutorial of the Blizzard of 1996 - one of the most notable snowstorms in United States history. This activity has been used in 6th grade science instruction up to freshman level meteorology classes as well as adult education science classes for educators (ACT 48 credits). A short but hard hitting activity that applies REAL WEATHER FORECASTING techniques that the professionals at NOAA and certified meteorologists on television use. Success at its conclusion indicates a very well rounded understanding of meteorological principles. Why? This activity incorporates temperature, dew point temperature, humidity, wind direction, wind speed, air pressure, air pressure change, precipitation, mid latitude cyclone evolution, different types of storms systems and their development, coastal influences, geographic influences, station models, graphical analysis, the scientific method, and much, much more. If you like weather, you will be INTRIGUED by this and want more!

Within the classroom, this activity was consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 6– 12 within multiple schools - public, private, and charter.

This work has also been shared at workshops, in-services, and conferences.

Used by teachers in New York State as a preparation for the Earth Science Grade 9 Regents Exam.
