I have been told this is an excellent activity in the event of a substitute teacher taking over your class.
Caution However - this Teaching Model suggests (but does not require) students to go outside on a cloudy day to make drawings of the clouds they observe. Once they make their drawings you can begin a discussion on how to clouds effect the weather or some other weather related topic.
I had one teachers make overhead transparencies of the cloud drawings and rather than go outside to draw the clouds the class had selected. They followed up with an in class discussion on the role of clouds in the water cycle..
