This bundle includes 4 awesome units to support the study of weather. These units are aligned to NGSS standards, and also include many opportunity for students to integrade language arts with reading, writing, and presenting. These units are available separately, but you will save by purchasing all 4 in this bundle. Here's what's included in each unit:
Activity 1: Making a Class Weather Station: Students make their own weather station then use it to keep a weather log.
Activity 2: Clouds: Students learn about the different types of clouds and how they are used to make weather predictions. They then use cotton balls to create the different types.
Activity 3: Making Frost: Students investigate how frost is made and participate in a hands-on activity.
Activity 4: Tornado In a Bottle: After discussion extreme weather, students make a tornado in a bottle and examine how objects are moved.
Activity 5: It’s so Humid! Students use a sponge and water to investigate humidity and saturation.
Activity 6: Weather Bingo: Students wrap up the unit by playing Weather Bingo. This serves as a great review of vocabulary. A supplemental thermometer reading practice is also included.
An optional post test and grading rubric are also included.
The Water Cycle:
Activity 1: Water Cycle Game: This simulation helps students develop a conceptual understanding of how water cycles through our world. They will take on the role of a drop of water and roll a dice to move through 6 different stops on the water cycle.
Activity 2: Making Rain Demo
Activty 3: Cinquin Poem: Students write a poem about rain or the water cycle.
Activity 4: Earth’s Water: This inquiry activity helps students conceptualize the available water for human consumption. Extensions of this activity include a writing activity as well as a pie graph activity.
Activity 5: Conserving Water: Students write about how they can conserve the small amount of usable water available on earth.
Activity 6: Water Cycle Bingo: Students practice key vocabulary words associated with the water cycle by playing bingo.
Activity 7: Performance Assessment: Students show what they know by drawing and labeling a diagram of the water cycle. A grading rubric is included.
The Big Chill
This engaging cooperative activity includes simulating a real life scenario to investigate the impact of wind and water on temperature. Math activities such as thermometer reading practice and making bar graphs are integrated within this activity.
What is a Meteorologist?
Activity 1: What is A Meteorologist? This informational reading gives students a general idea of what a meteorologist does. Comprehension questions check for understanding.
Activity 2: Meteorologist Fast Facts: This sheet gives students some important information about a career in meteorology: salary, education, locations, and soft skills they would need.
Activity 3: Famous Meteorologist: Students focus on a local meteorologist from their community.
Activity 4: Meteorologist for A Day: This hands on activity puts students in the role of a meteorologist.
Activity 5: Career Review: Students reflect on the pros and cons of being a meteorologist.
