Sort Cards: pgs. 2-6, The first card has a term, the second a photo. To use these cards I do the following: print on cardstock, laminate for durability, cut the cards, mix 1 set of cards in a bag., give students the bag and allow them to match the definition cards to the term cards. (The pictures help here—students know to match a picture card with a non-picture card.)
Clip Cars: pgs. 7-11, Each card has a definition in the center and the relationships along the edges. To use these cards I do the following: print on cardstock, laminate for durability, cut the cards on the dark lines, place the cards and a basket of clothes pins in my center, allow students to place a clothes pin over the correct term for each card.
Match It: pgs. 12-13 These cards are formatted to work with the match it boards . Just print, laminate, and cut on the indicated lines. Slide the cards into the board s and allow students to match the term with the definition using rubber bands. **Directions for making your own match up boards are included in the bundle.
Magnet Spelling: pg. 14; I print and cut these cards and then put them in my center with metal trays (cookie sheets) and containers of magnetic letters. The students then place a card on a tray and use the letters to spell out the word for the item pictured.
CD Spinners: (see extra files): These labels are set up to print on CD/DVD labels, Avery template 8692; when you print them they will print two copies of each label on a page, I put one label on each side of the cd so I can see what was spun from the back as well. Our favorite game is spin-spell-sentence; the students spins the cd, names the picture, spells it, and uses the word in a sentence before passing the spinner to the next person. **Directions for creating your own CD spinner are included in the bundle.
Worksheets: pg. 15– 31, cut and paste, crossword, cloze, word search, alphabetical order, scrambled words recording sheet*, assessment page
*Scrambled Words: The set has 18 words so I created an 18-count egg carton: I numbered plastic eggs 1-18, and then placed letter tiles to spell a word from the list into the eggs (a different word for each egg). The students then chose an egg, unscramble the letters, write the word on their paper for the corresponding number.
